All Souls Day, El Dia de Los Muertos

November 2nd, known as “All Souls Day” or “El Dia de Los Muertos” (Day of the Dead) is a day to celebrate the memory of loved ones who have passed away.  Many countries, including Mexico, set up a special altar both at their loved ones’ graveside and within their own home to honor their loved ones.  This makeshift altar is decorated with candles, food, and marigolds, as well as pictures of their loved ones.  It is a way to symbolically invite our loved ones to join us in honoring their memory and be with us.
