Thankfulness, Even in Grief
As the holidays approach, we look forward to special moments spent with our dear ones. If we have had a loss, we also may have a flood of memories and emotions that the holiday season evokes.
It may seem difficult to arrive at gratitude in these moments, yet choosing an attitude of gratitude can help to heal. The shared moments of love and laughter can be a starting point for transforming grief into appreciation for the time spent in the company of our loved ones.
While time may not heal all wounds, keeping a grateful heart will ease the pain and help in managing the days, weeks and months ahead.
In the words of Jean Baptiste Massieu, “Gratitude is the memory of the heart,” in other words, thankfulness is how we show with our heart that we remember what has been done for us and how much someone meant to us and impacted our lives.
