Processing grief while also taking on the responsibility of making decisions about what to do with the loved one’s belongings can be overwhelming. Everything that has been accumulated over a person’s lifetime, every greeting card, letter, award, article of clothing can hold so much meaning and memories that make it all the more difficult to figure out what will be kept, given to others or disposed of in some other way.
Anderson Cooper, journalist and podcaster, has experienced various losses over his lifetime. Most recently, his mother, Gloria Vanderbilt, passed away and he was faced with exactly this responsibility. His podcast, All There Is, documents his feelings and thoughts in such a raw and vulnerable manner as he tries to process his own grief, memories and feelings with the audience and with other guests who have also experienced loss and grief. It is strangely comforting to have him share his innermost thoughts as he struggles through his grief to reach a place of grace and acceptance.
