Honoring Loved Ones Who Have Passed with Food

Dec 17, 2022 | Articles & Information

The holiday season brings with it the smells, tastes and traditions that inevitably bring to mind the moments spent with those who have since passed away. Food is such an essential part of our celebrations and gatherings. A beautiful way to honor and remember those who have passed is to make our loved ones favorite meal for the holidays, or to include a dish that our loved one was known for preparing, or to share some of those recipes inspired and prepared by our lost loved one with the rest of our family members.

Recently, someone who had lost his mother a few years ago, was going through her stored items and discovered that his mother had written out recipe books that included all the meals she had cooked for each of her grandchildren.  The recipe book included their favorite dishes and the measurements for each ingredient based on their particular preferences. What a beautiful, thoughtful and loving gift to leave behind for her grandchildren. You can just imagine the care and planning that went into thinking about compiling this special gift. It also must be so moving to see her writing on those pages and to know that she thought of each grandchild as she put together the recipe book for each of them.

The delicious meals prepared with love and that were part of our history can be compiled so that they can be shared with our friends and loved ones. These recipes can be enjoyed for many years to come. They can be a way to capture those memories of moments spent with our lost loved ones, sharing a laugh over an unforgettable meal and feeling connected to each other and those whom we have lost.
