One of the many challenging tasks for which loved ones are often responsible has to do with deciding which items to keep or give away after a loved one has passed. It can be overwhelming to go through all the items (clothes, documents, furniture, etc.) that the loved one has accumulated over a lifetime. Döstädning (translated as “death cleaning”) is a Swedish concept that has become a popular trend. Essentially, the idea is to be proactive in de-cluttering our own lives so that once we have passed on, this does not become a huge task left for our loved ones to have to sort out. You may want to read a bit more about this practice in the article entitled, “What is “Swedish Death Cleaning and Should You Be Doing It?” by Sarah DiGiulio.
You may also look up a valuable book entitled, “The Gentle Art of Swedish Death Cleaning: How to Free Yourself and Your Family from a Lifetime of Clutter” (The Swedish Art of Living & Dying Series) by Margaret Magnusson. We think you will find it informative and thought-provoking.
